Science, Love, and Connection in Our IBD Family

Our members are from all around the world, each with unique and meaningful life circumstances, needs, and health goals. These individuals have not only profoundly changed their disease course, but they have also become people capable of beating IBD and they do it every day.

Haley B. is back to shredding the slopes
I felt so frustrated and lost when it came to my health. I would cry at my doctors appointments out of pure frustration that nothing was working. Even as a healthcare professional myself, I felt overwhelmed by the treatment options and research.

Joining IBDCoach has helped me feel empowered and has given me a focused way to educate myself. I have learned more about my Ulcerative Colitis in the past few months than I had in the previous 11 years since my diagnosis.

Now I go to appointments with a confident plan and have nothing but support for my protocol from my medical team. Today I'm shredding the slopes on my skies, I am off prednisone, I am off biologics, and my inflammatory markers are now normal for the first time since I was diagnosed.

Today Susan B. is loving life with her family
I had been struggling for about 3 years with my Crohn’s disease. It was a rollercoaster ride and at some point I realized that the things I was doing to manage the disease were no longer working – and that I needed to totally change how I was addressing it. I remember crying when my husband and I decided to join IBDCoach. It surprised me that I cried – but it was the feeling of relief of having a knowledgeable advisor and support system.

This program helped me focus on what was important to my health – and educated me in a deliberate way – unlike in the past where I would find random articles and listservs for information. My weight is back to normal – I have energy to jog, dance, bicycle and play with my kids.  IBDCoach has gotten me to this point – where I am off prednisone and have steered clear of biologics and feel better than I have felt in 3 years.

IBD Remission is a Way of Life

A message of hope from Andrew Kornfeld

 Founder & Executive Director, IBDCoach

Remission from Inflammatory Bowel Disease is not a destination – it's a way of life.  You will not simply arrive there, you will live and breathe remission every day. Remission requires planning and awareness; strength and grit; a pronounced ability to adapt within new and challenging contexts and circumstances. Remission is like surfing down the face of a big wave or moving with the agility of a hummingbird – it's a state of flow with your natural surroundings where harmonious freedom meets refreshing control – no longer resisting or fighting nature's power, but instead harnessing her energy for your mutual, symbiotic benefits.

Achieving remission from IBD does not require magic. It instead demands remarkable persistence and a new state of mind. This change will allow you to engage reasonable strategies based on scientific discovery and evidence. You will begin to reconcile and observe the delicate interconnection of human biology to the environment you inhabit. You will acknowledge yourself as an individual with unique life circumstances, needs, and dreams who will always require tailored interventions designed specifically for you and by you.

You will learn that your condition gives you superpowers: as someone with IBD you have extraordinary and rare abilities allowing you to sense the makeup of your environment and to differentiate between what heals or harms you to an extent significantly beyond that of the average human. With your new realized superpowers you will iterate continuously and make changes to your life that bestow robust states of health into the very core of who you are.

Embarking on the road to remission takes time and the process is non-linear. You will encounter obstacles that you could not predict nor prevent; however, you must never give up or give in. I can promise IBD does not sleep and remission will not spontaneously arrive on your doorstep. Instead you will intentionally harness the tools, the community, and the mindset to become a person who is stronger, happier, and more adaptable than ever before. At this time remission will cease to be a far-off, unattainable destination – it will become your way of life.
